New amphibious airplane Dornier of CD 2 Seastar is the most technologically advanced airplane in its class. The Seastar is the largest amphibian aircraft in the world constructed using composite technology.
The Seastar is the classic Dornier seaplane with high-mounted wings, double-stepped hull and tandem engines, built of modern composite materials with the use of new generation technologies and equipped with two P&W engines.
The standard version of the Seastar accomodates a two-man crew and up to 12 passengers. The aircraft offers roomy 3 - abreast seating avoiding the «tube effect». The wide cabin lends itself for conversion into a VIP version with large comfortable seating for 6 or 9 passengers. The 6 seater version provides space for installing lavatory.
The new all-composite construction techniques of the Seastar eliminated the biggest disadvantage of conventional seaplanes - corrosion. The Seastar can be operated either in fresh or salty water. New Seastar is equipped by two turbo-prop engines PT-6 and has the cruising speed of 330 km/h and range of flight of 1600 km. Dornier CD-2 Seastar allows to make safety water landings at the height of a wave of 1 metre.
